Yomelelani’s Changing Cost Structure

Crèche Costs

Changing Cost Structure

The size of the crèche has been reduced from the originally anticipated 32 to 22 following a pre-inspection of the space available for the babies. There are now 12 babies in the 3 to 12 month age range but fourteen in the twelve month to 2 year age range. There are a further fourteen in the 2 to 3 year old group. The youngest group has two carers -one per 6 babies is a Government requirement- and the ten will be looked after by one carer. Mothers will be required to supply nappies and milk in a quantity suitable for their child. The bottles are supplied by the crèche and stored in a dedicated refrigerator for that purpose.

It is expected that the parents will often be those employed as seasonal workers on the wine farms which means they will only have an income for 4 months in the year. It has been decided the fee for the babies will be R 180.00 per month which together with the Government Grant of R15 per day for 261 days a year implies that the crèche will be operating at a small loss. If the person cannot pay the fee Yomelelani will endeavor to find a sponsor for that baby.  A higher fee cannot be considered as the above mentioned people have a very limited income or no income at all.
