“Our children are our greatest treasures. They are our future.”
~ Nelson Mandela.
Yomelelani is a Community Early Childhood Development (ECD) school located in Zwelihle, an overpopulated Township on the outskirts of Hermanus in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Its mission is to provide education and nourishment for children from the poorest families in Zwelihle in a positive and happy learning environment thus helping to keep the children off the streets and enabling their fathers, mothers or carers to seek work or complete their own education.
The school provides a structured childhood education up to Grade R for 250 children aged 3 months to 6 years old. It is one of the few ECD schools authorised to offer Grade R tuition which greatly enhances their pupils’ chance of being accepted at the local Primary schools at their first attempt.
Yomelelani works closely with the Municipality, the Western Cape Education Department and the local community. It receives generous philanthropic support from a number of South Africa Sponsors, Trysts and individual donors as well as overseas donors, including the Yomelelani Trust UK.
We see a bright future for Yomelelani. It is an exciting model for an ECD school.
“Yomelelani” in Xhosa means “Be Strong” and our dream is to create stronger early childhood development for the Zwelihle community.
Help us to achieve this dream together.
